Doja Cat interview with Clara Amfo

Research
On October 30th, 2023, an interview with Doja Cat was released on YouTube by BBC radio 1. This follows the release of her third studio album 'Scarlet' which was released on September 22nd, 2023. She is interviewed by Clara Amfo, a BBC radio 1 Presenter, on the process that led to Doja's latest project. 

Narrative Construction 
In this interview the narratives purpose is to promote Doja Cat's album 'Scarlet', in addition to delving deeper into what led to its creation. This will make viewers more inclined into seeking out the album during their own time, also giving fans of Doja Cat a more insightful look into her thought process. The interview itself is sectioned out to have an introduction, body and conclusion flow. On the videos timeline there are 7 distinct parts, such as;
1. The deeper meaning behind the record.
2. What the record missed out on.
3. What is next for Doja Cat following the release.
This flow of subject creates a chronological timeline to the interview, which helps Clara and Doja get the purpose across. 

Treatment 
The language and tone used by both the presenter and the interviewee is in this case very high spirited. Clara and Doja are seen to be friendly and relaxed, by laughing at statements they make. They are comfortable with each other giving the interview a casual tone. the body language present also underlines this tone, as they face each other while talking and are very closely sat in relation to one another. Clara as the interviewer approaches the subject matter with enthusiasm in order to make Doja feel comfortable. This gives her the ease of sharing her thought process with judgement, therefore leaving more room for Doja to open up. 

Quality and Depth of Subject Matter
Since the interview was released on a radio stations YouTube channel the quality of the subject becomes very high. This is due to the viewers caring about the records and artists being interviewed. It is significant to them, as it holds an opportunity for the viewer to better understand the music from none other than the source of the music itself. By having Doja Cat elaborate on not only the music but personal aspects, like her ADHD, gives depth to the interview. The questions asked by Clara are conversational in nature, making Doja's responses lengthy and reflective. The interview follows this pattern throughout most of it. In conclusion, structure like this help with the depth as it makes Doja comfortable with delving into reflective topics. 

The Role of The Presenter
Clara Amfo shows her research and preparation through statements like "The first time I heard it ('Scarlet') I remember thinking Doja Cat is saying Yeah and What". Mentioning that she has listened to the album in question provides us with the information that she knows what she is talking about and somehow also takes shape of the fans and viewers. Clara also mentions how her intentions are to celebrate Doja's album and self. Her knowledge on the album and personal reaction makes a ground for relatability to get a better understanding of who the interviewee is. 

The Interviewee as a Character in The Story
Doja Cat has been a major artist on music charts since her studio album 'Hot Pink', released in 2019. When her success is seen in relation to the interviewers platform we can tell that Doja has relevance to the audience of the platform. During the interview she offers elaboration on a top selling album and other aspects of her career. The interview is all about the album she created and what it stands for meaning that her impact on the interviews story is needed. 

Technical Elements 
In the video Clara and Doja are centred as they are the main subjects of the interview. We care about what they are saying so having them visible and contrast to the background helps the viewer focus. Furthermore, elements such as the red lighting highlight the themes found in 'Scarlet'. This specifically pays homage to aesthetics Doja followed during the release. Mainly it mirrors songs such as 'Paint The Town Red' where during its release Doja changed all artwork on her platforms to feature a red filter. The musical instruments in the background are used as props to help illicit themes of the interview. Visual aids like the BBC radio 1 logo on the drums further illicit the basis of the interview. 



The Reports Cultural Context  
Due to the way social media has connected most corners of the world, an album as big as 'Scarlet' has significant cultural impact. Many listeners on X and other platforms have deemed the album a Pop culture masterpiece. Therefore, getting deeper context to it creates cultural context within the interview. People care about how the music is made because music has become such a big part of our lives, which can be seen in recent resurgences such as the rise of sales in vinyl, cd and streaming. 

The Presenters Intentions of Telling The Story
The intentions of BBC radio 1 and Clara Amfo are the give Doja Cat the platform to elaborate on her work. They aim to celebrate her creativity and success by giving her the space to explain herself and what made 'Scarlet' the popular album that it is. Since their audience is made up of music lovers from different genres they also help Doja reach a bigger audience by exposing their viewers to her music and persona.
